EU leaders without vision

EU leaders have agreed today to prolong the 'reflection period'. The final deadline for leaving the constitutional impasse will be the end of 2008.

The President of Europe United, Aki Paasovaara says: "The nonexistent results of the summit is another clear example how European politics has become an old men's conservative club without vision and true leaders. It is no wonder why Europeans, - even pro-Europeans, feel alienated, disillusioned and impatient. No vision. No support. As simple as that."

Mr. Paasovaara continues: "However, when there is a clear and powerful vision, people will be motivated to face the challenges. The question is: Who is bold enough to come with a bold, ground-breaking vision. Not the current leaders, who are afraid to say their opinion because of the next national election. But as long as the EU leaders do not have a readeable roadmap, clear message to offer, Europeans will increasingly continue to listen the national and unprogressive voices."
